Our Story
‘The Horseshoe, known locally as The ‘Shoe was built in 1626 as a farm ‘cotter house’ at the time of Oliver Cromwell. By around 1700 it was recorded as a ‘coaching stop’. We think it has sold Ale & Wine since then. In this century food has been sold here and since around 2000 The ‘Shoe has been a ‘destination’ restaurant.
The 399 year old building has two bars each with Ingle Nook fireplaces and a spacious restaurant. Renowned for its warm and inviting atmosphere the Shoe offers a delightful variety of popular dishes and a range of pleasing beverages. With centuries of tradition it seamlessly blends classic charm with contemporary comforts, making it a favourite destination for both locals and visitors seeking exceptional food quality offerings and great service.
We have over 100 seats in our spacious restaurant, neatly organised into alcoves and open areas overlooking our also spacious garden. This is supported by two bars offering all the ‘up to date’ beverages, and a nicely selected wine list. Don’t forget to book ahead if you are dining with us!

Excellent! 5 Stars! We were meeting family in the area and had seen a recommendation for ‘The Shoe’ as being motorhome friendly allowing stopovers. We phoned ahead and they were happy for us to stay in the large carpark at a charge of £15, but if purchasing a restaurant meal, then the cost was reduced to a very reasonable £5. The pub appears to have recently changed ownership and full credit to the new owners! The interior is lovely, huge garden and enthusiasm unlimited! Excellent menu, plenty of choice and all very reasonably priced. Hubby opted for the Chicken Biryani and I ordered the grilled salmon which came with beautifully fresh veg and a portion of mashed potato, with a sauce which is the chefs secret recipe! Both meals were absolutely delicious. Service provided by Somi was faultless. Would 100% recommend.
